If you’ve ever left a metal piece in the rain, or stored it under a previously-undiscovered leak, you know the sinking feeling of discovering rust on your beloved furniture. In this Fix It Friday we show you how to save your rusty metal furniture in 4 quick steps thanks to our very own Shay Collazo, the manager of our New York City location. (For a guide to New York City from Shay click here.)
Materials: WD-40, Steel Wool, Rags, and a Clear Acrylic Spray
Where: Best completed outdoors
Time: 45-60 minutes

Step 1: Spray the WD-40 on inside the outside of the piece. Do not be afraid to use too much!
Step 2: Scrub the rusty metal with steel wool.

Step 3: Wipe the area with a rag, and let the piece dry for at least 15 minutes.
Step 4: Spray two coats of your clear acrylic spray. Allow for dry time between coats.

After your acrylic dries for the second time, all finished. Your metal piece has been saved!

Tip: If you have no outside access for this project, try following steps on small portions of the piece instead of completing the whole piece at one time.
