British Colonial Style

British Colonial style and décor originated in the late 19th century and is still used in home design to this day – it is here to stay. The style first originated under the reign of Queen Victoria when the British Empire had voyaged to many parts of the world. Although the British enjoyed traveling they also loved the comforts of their homeland however, their furniture was built with soft woods such as pine and could not uphold the humid tropical climates. To overcome this issue native craftsman recreated the British designs using local materials such as ebony, teak, mahogany, rattan and wicker. With the incorporation of Asian, African and Indian motifs, British Colonial style and décor was born.

British Colonial style is rich in finish with dark woods and stains, usually placed with light walls and sophisticated accessories. Here at Nadeau we have many British Colonial furniture pieces to incorporate into your home.
